New Mexico Strategic Bitcoin Reserve

Current status is PROPOSED (TABLED)

New Mexico proposed the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve Act (SB 275) to allow up to 5% of state funds, such as the Land Grant Permanent Fund, to be invested in Bitcoin. The bill was tabled in February 2025 due to concerns about Bitcoinโ€™s volatility. Notably, Roswell, New Mexico, established the first U.S. city-level Bitcoin reserve (~0.02906 BTC) on April 30, 2025, with a $2,906 donation, to be held for at least 10 years.

Using the Land Grant Permanent Fund (~$31.9 billion), New Mexico could have potentially purchased approximately 15,660 BTC, assuming a BTC price of $102,182, if SB 275 had been enacted.
